Ramp can be done with mana rocks in each color, and white is much better than red at removal Dockside and Underworld Breach have shaken up cEDH and shifted some decks to run red, and the latter also had to be banned in two other formats while Deflecting Swat is arguably around the same level as Force of Will as interaction, Ragavan is one of the best 1 CMC/MV creatures in Magic ever (hence why it sees eternal play as the 11th most played card in modern, 16th most played card in legacy, and 6th most played creature in vintage).Įven on the more casual side of things, white has gotten Verge Rangers, Keeper of the Accord, Vanquish the Horde, Guardian of Faith, Archaeomancer's Map, etc, but red has gotten its fair share of such cards in Neheb, Torbran, Goldspan Dragon, Terror of the Peaks, Wheel of Misfortune, Etali, Cursed Mirror, etc. Yes, white has gotten powerful cards like Smothering Tithe, Esper Sentinel, Sevinne's Reclamation, Deafening Silence, Drannith Magistrate, Archon of Emeria, Cathar Commando, and Skyclave Apparition but, they definitely don't match up to the absurdly powerful red cards that have come out like Dockside Extortionist, Underworld Breach, Deflecting Swat, Jeska's Will, Birgi, and Ragavan. I'd argue this has gap has gotten further. Red has always had the edge over white in EDH even half a decade ago, mainly thanks to Blood Moon, Magus of the Moon, Wheel of Fortune-type effects, Vandalblast, and REB/Pyroblast. What are your thoughts?Įdit: I’m focusing strictly on MONO color decks. I used to point toward impulsive draw as the reason why red has better card draw, but White has been catching up and now I'm not so sure. White's boardwipes are also more powerful, and ] is yet another example of how white is able to more efficiently deal with a complicated boardstate. White also has many tutors for artifacts, enchantments, and small creatures. Yes, Red has ], but it has to rely on burn that can't hit larger creatures.Īlso, white has received powerful cards like ] and ] in recent years, and cards like ], ], ] and ] are powerful spells that increase either card draw/advantage. Ramp can be done with mana rocks in each color, and white is much better than red at removal with cards like ], ], ], and the newly printed ]. The Nitpicking Nerds channel on YouTube got me thinking: is white finally better than red?
